On this day, the 20th of September 1952, Betty Shanks’ body was discovered in the front yard of a residence at the corner of Carberry and Thomas Streets, Grange, Brisbane.

Her death was caused by being kicked, beaten and strangled. She was last seen alive leaving the tram terminus at Days Road, Grange at 9:32pm on the 19th of September 1952.

To this day the person/s responsible for the murder of Betty Shanks is still unknown.

A $50,000 reward remains on offer from the Queensland Government for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person/ persons responsible for the murder of Betty Shanks on the 20th of September, 1952.
