The Palaszczuk Government has recently devised a consultation paper that seeks the public’s stance on the implementation of reforms to civil surveillance laws via a multistage process.
These reforms would limit the improper use of surveillance technologies in the civil and workplace hemispheres via criminalisation. Technologies including CCTV, tracking and audio devices are included in the paper. Interestingly, the use of both corporate and recreational drones, specifically those with enhanced visual and audio recording abilities has been discussed in the report.
Drone regulation has consistently been a topic amongst Australian media outlets, as the technology continues to evolve. Potential legal reforms could impact a wide range of people from social media influences to backyard drone enthusiasts to professionals.
